     Huaqiao University is a dynamic public university with more than 30,000 students in 34 colleges enrolled in over 20 doctoral programs, more than 100 masters’ degree programs, and over 60 undergraduate programs on two campuses on the coast of southeastern China across the strait from Taiwan.

Position Description:

· Workload will be 10 – 14 hours of instruction per week (one hour is counted as 50 minutes).

· Salary package:

o Living accommodation in air-conditioned foreign teaching housing on Quanzhou campus with private bathroom and wireless internet. Housing: free apartment with bedroom, study, living room, kitchen, bathroom, balcony, furniture, TV, refrigerator, washing machine, air-conditioners, telephone, microwave oven and internet access. (Water, electric, and telephone are paid by the occupant.)  

o Medical insurance (comprising critical illness insurance, additional medical insurance, in-hospital allowance insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, additional supplementary outpatient and emergency medical insurance.)

o Salary dependent upon position and the educational and professional teaching credentials of the candidate hired (Feel free to contact Mr. ZHANG for detailed information)


Required Training/Credentials:

To apply for one of these positions, please submit the following:

· Letter of application

· Official transcript of completed Master’s Degree in MAT, MALS, or MBA, or evidence of earned Ph.D. or other graduate certification with some coursework in the respective area.

· Validation certificate of the degree program credentials (undergraduate and graduate) by the Chinese Council in the USA (Just find the nearest council.)

· Recommendation letter

· Copy of photo page of applicant’s passport, with evidence of a passport expiration date

· Enthusiasm and sincere interest in teaching, with experience in teaching the above courses desirable.

Huaqiao University Profile


    Huaqiao University (HQU) was founded in 1960 as an institution of higher learning designated for the educational needs of overseas Chinese and the children of returned overseas Chinese. The university is subordinate to the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. It is one of the first batch of universities rated Excellent in the nation-wide quality evaluation of undergraduate education by the Ministry of Education (MOE). In addition, it is China’s major base for overseas Chinese language and culture education and a national Quality Education Base for College Students.


    With the guiding principle of “Tailored to the educational needs of Foreign Countries, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan”, HQU adheres to the purpose of “Serving Overseas Chinese and Propagating Chinese Culture” and the school motto of “Preparing our students to become highly-educated individuals with profound knowledge, virtue and competence.” The board of trustees is composed of prominent persons and professionals of all circles of overseas Chinese, compatriots of Hong Kong and Macao and returned overseas Chinese. The incumbent president is Prof. JIA Yimin, doctoral supervisor of the education of Chinese language and culture.


    Currently the university has 34 colleges with 3 doctoral programs of first-level disciplines, 21 doctoral programs of second-level disciplines, 18 masters programs of first-level disciplines, 111 masters programs of second-level disciplines, 4 masters programs of Master of Business Administration(MBA), Master of Public Administration(MPA), Juris Master (JM) and engineering, and 60 bachelors programs. In addition, the university boasts 1 national key discipline, 11 key disciplines of provincial or ministry level, and 3 centers for post-doctorate studies. The disciplines cover 10 categories in sciences, engineering, economics, management, law, liberal arts, philosophy, history, agriculture and education.


    HQU has a highly competitive faculty of more than 2600 staff members. Of the 1541 full-time teachers, there are about 736 professors and associate professors. Among the teachers, there are recipients of “National Outstanding Youth Foundation Projects”, candidates for “National Talent Incubation Project” and “Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University (NCET)” by Ministry of Education (MOE). 46 teachers enjoy the special government allowance granted by the State Council. In addition, more than ten prestigious scholars and celebrities ? at home and abroad including Chen Ning Yang, winner of the Nobel Prize for physics, were engaged as honorary professors, visiting professors or part-time professors of Huaqiao University.


    HQU has comprehensive teaching and scientific research facilities and public service systems. The university has campuses in Quanzhou and Xiamen, covering a total area of 2.268 million square meters. The library stock of books and documents totals 1.34 million volumes. Furthermore, electronic books are numbered up to 800,000 volumes. In addition, there are 62 research institutions, 2 engineering research centers under The Ministry of Education (MOE) and 7 key laboratories of provincial level.


    Over the past half century, HQU has cultivated 99,000 talented grauduates from  bothhome and abroad, among whom more than 40,000 are overseas students. Currently there are 28,000 students of all levels, among whom there are 2500 doctoral students and postgraduates. With more than 3,600 overseas students from 30 countries or regions including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, HQU has become one of the universities that has the largest numbers of overseas students. With a leading role in traditional Chinese culture, the university boasts quality education, giving birth to the teaching feature of “Individualized Teaching for Two Types of Students”. HQU campus features an atmosphere of cultural diversity under a common goal, and seeks “harmony rather than uniformity in the spirit of tolerance”


    HQU endeavors to develop Chinese language and culture education for overseas Chinese and Chinese of foreign citizenship. The university has representative offices in Bangkok, Thailand, Surabaya, Indonesia, Manila, Philippines, Hong Kong and Macao. HQU pays attention to international exchange programs, and to date has established relationships with over 40 universities and institutions outside China.


    Today, focusing on the three central tasks of “developing Chinese language and culture education, constructing Xiamen campus, and building teaching-oriented research university”, HQU is taking every necessary step to become a top-quality university performing the dual tasks of teaching and research with its strengths in engineering disciplines and Chinese language education for overseas Chinese.
